This cabinet/ dropdown desk has been in my home for a long time. It was originally used in the guest bedroom as a writing desk and temporary storage for overnight visitors. It’s versitility landed it in the breakfast room. Napkins, placemats and candles are stored in the drawers. The drop down desk is used to organize and pay household bills. Cookbooks and collectibles are displayed on the shelving.
The before picture of the cabinet looks pretty good, but believe me it looked dated and needed a facelift.
After considering several paint colors, I settled on a bright white that would match the molding in the room.
I painted the inside Annie Sloan Paris Grey and added a graphic from The Graphics Fairy.. I also change the knobs from metal to clear glass ones. I really tried to love it. In a few days, I still didn’t love it. Perhaps the paint color was too stark and cold compared to the previous green and gold.
Soooooooo I warmed it up with antique white paint and glazing I had left over from a previous project.
It now looks like this.
Vintage silverware which belonged to my great grandmother has found a place in the newly painted cabinet. I took the time to sort out the cookbooks and passed on a few to “Goodwill.”
