A clean Slate

As I was de-Christmasing the house,  the day after Christmas I might add,

……….the empty table tops, the cleaned off mantels and the blank walls

all have a pleasing look to me.

There it is……….. a clean slate…….There is something about a fresh start

that gives me a peaceful, calm feeling.

I can now have a fresh approach to each room and I don’t have to be in a hurry.

The deadlines of the holiday are behind me.

I can even wake up and redo what I did the day before if I want to.….

just like in the movie “Groundhog Day.”    I love, love , love the idea of waking up to a day

when I can redo the day before until I get it right.  No, I’m not delusional, …..I know that’s

not possible……But a clean slate……very possible.

What if ……….. we could see each day as a clean slate for our lives…. what would we do differently?

In a way it is……. Each day can be a clean sheet of paper in our book. Yes, there are chapters before

this page that have been set and there’s no going back for a rewrite….. but today….

we can make better choices, we can change plans we have for the future that we suspect won’t work out anyway.

As we are looking at the coming new year, and saying goodbye to an old year, we can look within ourselves to

make a fresh approach….. some call it resolutions…. I call it opportunities.

A new year is refreshing. The old year has  remembrances of our share of heartaches, disappointment and failures,

but a new year gives us the sense of a clean slate.

It has possibilities and opportunities waiting for us. Are you excited yet?… I sure am.

While there are many things beyond our control for the coming year, we have been given an amazing gift and opportunity.

We each can have a clean slate of our own. Each day can be a new beginning.

One of the most encouraging verses of scripture for me is 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We have been given the amazing opportunity to have our slates wiped clean through our reconciliation with Jesus.

My mistakes and  sins of yesterday can be forgiven and I can have a fresh start today.

De-cluttering my house from all the Christmas decorations, gives me the opportunity for a fresh approach to the rooms of my home.

De-cluttering my heart and soul from the heartaches, disappointments and failures gives me a good chance to be free from the past that

keeps me from enjoying the present and looking forward to the future.

I am looking forward to decorating my home again and doing it with thought and not rushing the process just to fill the empty spaces.

I do not want to fill the days of 2014 with just actions. But I want to take my clean slate and fill it with thoughtful purpose; doing

activities that have meaning and purpose. Purpose is what gives us strength to carry on through difficult situations and changes.

And those were my thoughts as I was de-Christmasing 2013.

Happy New Year!
