The ticking clock and Christmas in September

Tick tock….tick tock….tick tock

The sound is deafening.

 Stop!

STOP NOW,  I want to scream.

There’s just not enough time left.

To sort through all the accumulated “stuff”

from the last 23 years.

What to toss, what to give away, what to pack.

And once that’s decided, where do I put it  all?

Twenty three years of living on three floors of house. (actually 2 levels of living

and 1 level of storage.)

I admit it’s overwhelming.

I was so much younger when I last did this.

It was a happy, joyful time. I was head over heels in love with the new

life that awaited as I moved into this fixer upper.

This time is so different. Too many unknowns.

Like,  will the closing be on time for this house?

Where will the next house be????

And what about financing???

STOP THE CLOCK!!!!!

Sigh…. I will get it done.. I WILL GET IT DONE!

Now, is that more convincing?

December 2013 Christmas…my last year for Christmas decorating here.

Get ready for many pictures of the outside.

Well, I’m leaving while on top.

Did you see the #1?  Did cha,  did cha, did cha?

That will be the last time the Garden Club will

be judging my decorating efforts.

All good things must come to an end, so the proverb goes.

December 2013 was indeed a good season.

Spaghetti Breakfast and visions of houses

After a day of touring potential homes, cooking was not on my list of things to do

for last night’s dinner.

Take out from a local Italian eatery, which is known for large portions,  meant

I could have baked spaghetti for breakfast too.

Don’t tell me you’ve never had a Spaghetti Breakfast.

While having my Spaghetti, I reviewed the houses from yesterday.

First, a house in the mountains for consideration.

The house is in a gated community with winding roads.A beautiful drive in good weather, but not so much

in icy. snowy weather which occurs in this area a few times during winter.

And the house needed  more TLC than I wanted to take on.

Mentally marked this on off the list as we were driving away.

Next house.

We named this the Quirky House. You had to see it to understand why.

The quirky house has beautiful views. The house has been vacant for a while..

The pictures are kind and don’t show all the work that would be needed for it to be home sweet home.

On to see what’s behind door/house # 3.

An old, vacant house.. You know me and my passion for historic houses.

image

image

As you can see from the above photo…………..…..so much work.

Too much time, too much $$$$$$$$.

One more historic home was on the list. A historic Colonial with lots and lots of charm……

reserved only for the outsideof the house it seems.

image

The pictures don’t reflect all the work that would need to be done. So disappointed. The outside was

so promising.

image

One last house for the day.

image

Beautiful wrap around porch. A great place for rocking chairs and relaxing.

image

See the beautiful backyard…………beyond those trees………

the interstate with ALL the road  noise heard from the rocking chair front  porch

and the back yard deck. SIGH.

Enjoyed looking, but the search is far from over to find the one that says to me

“ Welcome Home.”

The Plantation House

A few facts about The Plantation House

  • It was built in 1847
  • It is a Greek Revival house
  • It is on the National Register of Historic Places
  • It is For Sale

This house is in great shape. The old bricks have stood the test of time

The double wooden and screen doors hardly  show  sign of age.

Back of House. Looks very much like the front.

image

Inside,  the floors are sturdy and noticeably level after the Victorian House.

Huge hallway goes from front doors to back doors.

IMG_0763

The white door is an open door to a bathroom tucked under the stairs.

There are 4 rooms downstairs and 4 rooms upstairs…

While I would be so thrilled to put my decorating skills to work at the Plantation House,

updating the two bathrooms and eventually  the kitchen is more than I want to take on.

And the acreage that comes with the house would require a lot of time and effort to

maintain.

While I can dream about living in a house like the Plantation House,

the practicality in my head brings me back to reality…… sigh

The search continues.
