Without further delay

The word I have chosen for 2015 is (drum roll please)

It’s a nice word we all throw around, myself included. It is also a word we act out whether we are aware of it or not.

Just think how far we could go if we consciously set out to put it into practice in every situation..

Not to be confused with complicating everything, but to make it better, to improve upon it.

According to the dictionary, Enhance is to heighten, increase; especially :  to increase or improve in value, quality, desirability, or attractiveness <enhanced the room with crown molding>

Decorators and home stagers are all about enhancing a home, a room or a particular area as their professional eye tells them it needs improvement.

Designers can drastically change a room with the goal of improving and enhancing the functionality as well as the appearance of the space.

Enhancing always has a pay off. It’s well worth the effort and time.

Enhancing is not about comparing yourself to others or even to your past self;  the way you used to look or what you use to have.

Comparison is self defeating and takes away . It does not enhance.

Look at the current reality and who you are today and either accept or change the situation.

Every choice we make diminishes or enhances. If it’s not adding to your life, it is taking away.

We’ve all got some dead wood to prune

Friendships are some of the best things in life.. Good friends ease our stress and enhance our health. And then there are those friendships that diminish rather than enhance. You know what to do with those.. Sometimes you just need to walk away.

I can think of many areas of my life that can use a little or, lets be honest , a lot of enhancement.

I wished I could say the enhanced pictures I’m posting are of the new house I moved into six weeks ago. I’m good, but not that good..

These pictures, from the 2012 Southern Living Farm House, are giving me ideas to start enhancing the 3200 square feet that will be a major project in the 12 months ahead.

I will be getting all the ideas I can get my hands on and blogging about the journey.

The house is not the only area I will be working on.  There are other situations needing concentrated doses of enhancement.

Not having a crystal ball, I don’t know how my 2015 word of the year will play out.

What about you? Did you have a word that guided you in 2014 and have you chosen a word for 2015?

I would love to hear your story!

What’s the word?

Before I reveal the word I have chosen to guide and keep me focused in 2015, I am thinking of the word I chose at the beginning of 2014.

Last year, I chose the word………

A new year ahead and thoughts of having a fresh start were in this head of mine.

Wanting and needing fresh thoughts, fresh ideas and the results that follow, I chose the word and hoped I wouldn’t have egg on my face at the end of the year.

Would the year end with me thinking, “what was so fresh about 2014?

It’s not like I had a goal oriented plan in hand as I faced the year.  My only goal was to start the new year with a word in my head and a willing heart to follow where it took me.

And where did it take me?

This word challenged me time and again as I would fall back into my “safe” way of thinking; which was not new to me at all.. From experience, I know my old way of thinking would lead to to my old way of feeling and living..

The safe road, the road I seemed to be most comfortable with, would not lead me to the destination I had in mind.

As in the words of Robert Frost.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference

I might add it’s the one less traveled by me. It was the unknown road I took to live out my word of the year.

This road took me to a different town, a new location and into a new, fresh home. I have a fresh outlook, new experiences, and new memories to make.

While it may not be a big deal to those who don’t wait 2 decades to move,  it was a gigantic undertaking to sort through 23 years of “stuff” and let go of things and memories that were clouding my view of life.

Each day brings me a chance to make new plans and see with fresh eyes.

Looking back, I never thought the end of the year would be vastly different from the beginning

and some may think it’s a coincidence.  Not me.

We change our destiny with our thoughts and our thoughts are made of the words we tell ourselves.

I will leave you with these words from Proverbs 23 :7

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

My word for 2015?  I’ll tell you later. I’m such a tease aren’t I?

Snow and a fresh start to 2015

Happy New Year!

What does the first day of a new year and snow have in common?

February snow 2014 024

The snow is fluffy and  bright. It gives a clean slate to the look of the landscape.

It sure gives a fresh view of the world.

And so it goes with the New Year. It gives us all  a new starting line. We can start fresh with all those resolutions that we made. It gives us the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and begin anew.

As we are in the infancy of 2015, it’s a good time to start exploring new ideas. Take some risks and don’t allow yourself to see boundaries. See no reason something can’t be done.

Develop a new way of thinking. Look at your dreams and ideas and see all the possibilities.

Awaken your passion and believe that tomorrow will be more exciting than today.’

Think big. You’re going to be  thinking anyway so let it be big, Banish negative thinking and don’t give into doubt when problems arise or you don’t see things happening the way you expected. Turn your problem into an opportunity.

Turn your attention to what is holding you back and work through it..

If fear of failure is holding you back, overcome the fear by acting boldly and being persistent..

If you do what you did in 2014, 2015 will be a repeat.

If you want more, you have to do more. If you want change, you have to change something.

Think of a single word that will keep you focused for the year. A word that  describes what you want to accomplish or how you want your life to be different.

I haven’t decided what my word will be for 2015, but I can tell you my word for 2014 really played out in an unexpected way. I will share that with you later.

Happy New Year.

A New Year of Opportunities Await.
